FAQs

  • Pelvic floor therapy is focused on evaluating and treating conditions impacting the bowel, bladder, and sexual function. The pelvic floor is a sling of muscles found in the base of your pelvis supporting your pelvic organs. External hands on techniques, internal techniques (not mandatory), and exercises and education tailored to you and your plan of care.

  • We come to you, meeting you where you live your life, and offering truly personalized care created to fit your needs. You will always see Leanne for your visits, and won’t be passed around between multiple therapists when working through some of the most intimate difficulties one can experience. We are inclusive of all people and want you to feel supported and empowered in your care.

  • Entry-level physical and occupational therapy practitioners receive little training in pelvic health as part of their Masters/Doctoral level degree coursework. Therapists looking to work in this area complete post-professional education and training to enhance their skills in this practice area. Essentially, they take very similar courses, just operate from a different background and perspective.

As a licensed and registered occupational therapist in York, PA, Leanne has training in psychology, behavioral health, environmental analysis, activity analysis of habits, routines and roles, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, and sexuality. This enables her to treat both the physical and the emotional or mental aspects of pelvic floor dysfunction. Leanne is a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTS-I) and uses trauma-informed care throughout her practice.

  • We will talk extensively about your life, including your social and medical history, your daily habits, routines, activities and roles, your reason for coming to pelvic floor therapy, and your goals. We will then often transition to a movement assessment to evaluate how your body is moving. When we are finished with the movement assessment, we will have another chat about your goals and how your body’s current functioning is connected to them. We will collaborate to create a plan of care and schedule your treatment sessions! Evaluations typically last between 60 and 90 minutes.

  • We believe that every pregnant parent-to-be should see a pelvic floor therapist. Pelvic floor therapists can help you learn about your pelvic floor and its role in your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. Pelvic health occupational therapists (OT) can help to decrease the risk and severity of perineal tearing during childbirth, help to maximize your mobility and strength, enhance your body mechanics for the demands of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and educate on optimal breathing techniques, patterns and body position for the activities of parenthood.

  • Absolutely! We use preventative and rehabilitative models and would be happy to help you meet your goals!

  • Absolutely! Pelvic health issues don’t discriminate, and neither do I. I treat men for a variety of pelvic health concerns, including pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, post-prostate surgery recovery, and more.

  • We believe that everyone can benefit from consulting with a pelvic floor therapist, and receiving treatment if warranted. We utilize and work from both preventive or rehabilitative models of care to help you meet your goals. If there is ever a time where it feels like a higher level of care is warranted, I will you refer to another provider specializing in your area of need.

  • Yes. Pennsylvania is not a direct access state for occupational therapy services. We can accept signed referrals from the following: family physician or primary care provider, OBGYN, nurse practitioner, and certified nurse midwife (CNM). Please ensure that the referral is for “pelvic floor OT” as we cannot accept referrals for physical therapy or pelvic floor PT. Scripts can be provided for you to give to your provider to sign.

  • We are an out-of-network provider. Most insurance companies are now calling the shots regarding what care you need or deserve. This can result in the insurance company taking away the provider’s ability to decide what care you need. By deciding to be an out-of-network provider, we are able to collaborate with YOU (not your insurance company) to create the best plan of care for your goals. At Imagine Pelvic Health, you will always know in advance how much your visit will be, no surprise bills or charges. Out-of-network services often end up being cheaper than insurance-based services!

Upon request, we can provide a receipt of services for you to independently submit to your insurance for reimbursement or application towards your deductible. This is often called a superbill. Due to Medicare regulations, we are not able to provide care to those who have Medicare, however we are happy to refer you to another local pelvic floor therapist who can.
